Public Candidate forum for the Board of Education vacancy: April 16th, 6:pm, Mellon Center

Looks like there will be a public candidate forum next week, April 16th at the Mellon Center:

Thank you for your interest in applying for the open position on the Unit 4 Board of Education.  We received significant interest in this position. After careful consideration and review of the applications received, the Board would like to interview you for further consideration for this position.  The interview is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16 at the Mellon Administrative Center (703 S. New St., Champaign).  Please note that your interview will be conducted by the Board but will be open to the public.  The interview will take the form of a candidate forum with all candidates answering the same questions posed by the Board.  You will also have the opportunity to make a one-minute opening statement and one-minute closing statement.

I am pretty sure this means the public gets to listen but not talk, right? Oh boy.

    Many questions, no answers…
Will it be televised? Will it be recorded? Is the vote to appoint the new member planned for the board meeting that evening? Is there an opportunity for the community to provide input to the board on who they would like to see fill Greg’s slot?

Do not wait for answers, be pro active and call the folks at the Mellon Bldg to get the answers. Also ask who are the candidates so this can be made public ahead of time giving the general public a lead time to share thoughts about candidates with board members. Just because there is a candidates’ forum does not mean open process.

I know you talk to the Superintendent and at least one Board Member semi-regularly. Can I ask that you share from those meetings items that would be relevant to the public at large?

Thanks Sena. My RSS feed is getting to me again. 🙂

Hmmm. Some ‘political’ candidates. Too bad.

@Karen: Yeah, I am finding that interesting. Care to fill in any other blanks?

Laurie Bonnett: Mike Frerichs Chief of Staff (still current? Can’t tell from Frerich’s website)
    Tony Bruno: Tom Bruno’s son

    Others (not so political?):
Patricia Brady – College of Education (works right across the street from me, didn’t know that before)
    G. David Frye – With CITES (University)
Alissia Young – Child Care Resource Service, University of Illinois (same person?)
Carolyn Savage – could be the wife a the late Rev. Lundy Savage? (recently passed away, my regards)

Hmm…. all the accepted applications are now online. Funny how mine is the smallest. Personally, I take that as a good sign. Makes for interesting reading; also good to finally get to know some of the others a little better. I continue to be excited that more folks are wanting to be involved in the school district. Those little nametags must be a really attractive perk. 🙂
