Questions for the March 25th Board Meeting

Good morning,

In looking over the agenda of the March 25th board meeting, I have a few questions; they fall nicely into three groups.
  1. The projected budget (8.A.) is well done and easy enough to grasp (thanks to Dr. Joe Davis!). A couple of thoughts. Can we start thinking of a budget in which we depend 100% on local sources? I would love to see us sever ties with the State altogether. 🙂 Also, given the current new expenditures and programs, will Unit 4 still be financially positioned well in, say, 5 years from now if the State actually does stop all funding?
  2. Both 9.D. and 9.E. say the exactly same thing with no other explanation: “Resolution to Give Written Notice of Reassignment and Reclassification”. What exactly does that mean? What is the resolution?
  3. The two change orders for Carrie Busey (10.D. and 10.E.) are under “Consent Agenda”, meaning there will not be any discussion. I confess to being a little naive, but it looks like we are paying $30,000+ for what appear to me to be mistakes made by the contractor; lots of Designs Issues, Field Conditions and Code Issues. I understand there must be some flexibility because we humans are not yet perfect, but I am curious about oversight and accountability. It seems odd to me that sidewalks were 6″ less than drawings, and missing curb ramp (and yes, I see these are credits – more concerned about the principle). I realize there are a bunch of small things, but they do add up.
Thanks much!

‘Watch the meeting’…so much wrong with that. You’re not the problem, Charles. The School Board sorely needs people like you.
